Concert Lighting

Moving lights, truss rigs, washes and beams designed around the music and run live by our operators, for club shows, festivals and outdoor stages.

Concert Lighting Built Around the Music

A great concert is more than a stage and a sound system. Every beat, lyric and light cue has to hit together, from the front row to the back gate. That is the job of concert lighting.

ProSho designs and runs lighting for club shows, national tour stops, outdoor festivals and one-off performances, for audiences of 200 or 20,000. Our designers build the rig around the artist, the venue and the music, then our operators run it live, show after show.

The same crew can bring the line arrays, the stage and the screens, so one team owns the whole production. See our Concerts & Outdoor Events work, or talk to our AV company in NYC.

Stage Lighting Design, From Plot to Cue Stack

We start with your vision, the music and the moments that matter, then build the show from there.

Show Design Brief

We learn the artist, the set list and the big moments, and read the tech rider.

Fixture Plot and Programming

We plot moving heads, washes, spots and beams, and program looks with DMX.

Rehearsal

We run the cues with the performers and fine-tune every look.

Live Operation

Our operators run pre-programmed cues or play the show live by hand.

Programming is where the lighting earns its keep. We choreograph movement, color, intensity and gobo projection to follow performers, hit reveals and sync with the audio, so the light moves with the music instead of just sitting on it.

The Fixtures in a Concert Rig

Every rig is different, but most concert lighting is built from these pieces.

Spot and Profile Movers

Moving heads with sharp beams and gobos for looks that change song to song.

Wash Fixtures

Big fields of color across the stage and the band, the base layer of every look.

Beam Fixtures

Tight, bright beams that cut through the air for big moments.

Follow Spots

Precise follow spotting for walk-ons, solos and talent reveals.

Stage Haze

A light haze that makes the beams visible, used with care for the venue and the audience.

Atmospheric FX

Gobos and Logos

Patterns and artist logos projected across the stage and the room.

Truss Lighting and Rigging for Big Stages

Concert rigs hang from truss: overhead grids, towers and side positions that carry the lights, and often the speakers and screens too. Our rigging team plans every truss run and hang point for the load and the venue, and our crew builds it safely, indoors and out.

At the Macy’s 4th of July fireworks on the Hudson River, where ProSho gave full A/V support with production partners PRG, the stage sat under a truss rig lined with lights, with lighting towers beside the speaker stacks.

Outdoor shows add weather, power and schedule shifts to the list. We plan for all three with weather-ready gear, power distribution sized for the rig, and a backup plan agreed before the first truss goes up.

Concert Questions We Hear Most

How much does concert lighting cost?

It depends on the size of the stage and the venue, the number of fixtures and how much truss the rig needs, programming time, and indoor or outdoor. Send us the venue, the date and the artist rider, and we will quote it.

What is stage lighting design?

Stage lighting design is planning where every light goes, what it does and when. The designer builds a plot of fixtures, programs the looks and cues, and runs them during the show, so the lighting follows the music and the performers.

Can you work from the artist’s lighting rider?

Yes. Pre-production starts with the artist tech rider and the venue specs. We plan the rig around what the artist needs and tell you early if the venue changes anything.

Do you light outdoor concerts and festivals?

Yes. Outdoor shows get weather-ready gear and a backup plan, with truss, rigging and power distribution planned together with the stage.

Can the lighting sync to the music?

Yes. We program movement, color, intensity and gobos to follow the show, and cues can run from timecode or be played live by the operator, depending on the performance.

Do you provide the lighting operator?

Yes. Our lighting operators program the rig before the show and run it live, cue by cue or by hand, for one act or a full bill.
